Crossing the Andes Marathon
Lung Cancer Patients Foundation will participate in “Crossing the Andes Marathon” that will begin February 2012. "The Crossing" is going to be in teams and with my friend and runner Lucrecia Videla we are registered as the "Lung Cancer Patients Foundation".
"Columbia Cross of the Andes" takes place in Patagonia Argentina and began 10 years ago and the objective of the race is crossing The Andes, joining Argentina and Chile, this is a total distance of 105 km. In the first stage we will run 38.7 km and will reach an altitude of 2,133 meters above sea level. The second stage will be the longest with 40.5 km and the last one is of 26.4 km.
The approximate 1,500 runners from all around the world will cross
places of unbeatable beauty - mountains and volcanoes; snowed summits, forests, lake shores and rivers; valleys, rocky areas and all the different aspects that the mountain offers. Even though this event is done in summer, the climatic variation could be extremely adverse and can include extreme cold, snow, wind and rain.
By the end of January we'll be in San Martin de los Andes from where we will transfer to Chile and on February Friday 3rd 2012 the adventure starts...
We've been training very hard and we know we can make it. We want to demonstrate that, like every aspect of life, in spite of the difficulties, tiredness and adversities we can overcome the obstacles and not surrender to or become paralysed because of fear. I hope our marathon will be an inspiration and offer hope and encouragement to all patients and families that have received a cancer diagnosis.
We will keep you posted with news...
