Excellence in Journalism Award presented jointly by Go2 For Lung Cancer and The Prevent Cancer Foundation to Drea Conenjo.

Drea Cornejo is an award-winning video journalist with the Washington Post.  Based in St. Petersburg, FL she covers stories at the intersection of health and policy. Over the past seven years, Drea has reported on major public health issues, natural disasters and breaking news of the day.

Drea Cornejo receives the 2025 GLCC Excellence in Journalism Award from Maureen Rigney of Go2 For Lung Cancer,  jointly given with The Prevent Cancer Foundation.

After a lengthy and frustrating diagnostic path, Drea was diagnosed at the age of 26 with ROS1 positive non-small cell lung cancer. Her impactful story of her diagnosis and dedication to highlighting the stories of other young cancer survivors, as well as additional cancer-related content (for example, Still kicking. Metastatic ‘thrivers’ give patients like me hope) made Drea a natural and meaningful choice to receive a 2025 Global Lung Cancer Coalition Journalism award.

GO2 for Lung Cancer and The Prevent Cancer Foundation thank Drea for her dedication, her body of work, and for so honestly sharing her story.

Members are reminded that each organisation within the GLCC is entitled to make its own Excellence in Journalism Award and/or Special Recognition Award for awareness-raising activities not within traditional mainstream media formats.
